MRC de la Matanie

Translation for an Interactive Kiosk Showcasing Local Producers

Overview

Translation of short-form content for an interactive kiosk commissioned by MRC de la Matanie, located outside a newly developed farmers’ market in the Matanie region.

The project features approximately 40 local producers, offering visitors concise and engaging insights into their products, background and points of sale.

The client reached out following a recommendation from a regional economic development organization I had previously collaborated with.

Designed as an on-site digital touchpoint, the terminal supports the visitor experience by both informing users and encouraging them to explore the market and surrounding area.

The challenge

This project involved translating a series of short entries intended for a public, on-site interface.

Each entry (approximately 100–150 words) needed to:

  • introduce the producer and their activity
  • convey key information clearly and efficiently
  • remain engaging and easy to read in a quick-consultation context

The content was aimed at:

  • tourists discovering the region
  • visitors looking to learn more about products purchased on-site

Additional constraints included:

  • strict character limits for keywords and interface elements
  • maintaining coherence across approximately 40 entries
  • adapting content to suit an interactive, user-facing format

The tagline « Explorez les richesses gourmandes de la Matanie ! » also required creative adaptation within similar length constraints.

My approach

I approached this project with a focus on clarity, brevity and user experience.

  • Adapting content for short-form formats
Each entry was crafted to communicate essential information efficiently, while maintaining a natural and engaging tone.
  • Writing for real-world use
The content was designed for quick reading in a public setting, prioritizing immediate understanding.
  • Working within constraints
Keywords and interface text were adapted carefully to meet character limits without compromising meaning.
  • Maintaining cohesion across entries
I ensured consistency in tone, structure and terminology across all producer profiles.
  • Adapting key messaging creatively
Multiple English versions of the tagline were proposed, with the final version selected as:
“Unearth the best of La Matanie’s local goods!”

The result

The final English content delivers clear, concise and engaging information across all entries, supporting both ease of navigation and user engagement.

The translation contributes to a smooth and intuitive visitor experience, helping users quickly discover local producers and encouraging further exploration of the market and the region.

It also demonstrates the value of adapting content to both format and context, particularly in projects involving public-facing, interactive environments.

Key takeaway

This project highlights the importance of writing for context, ensuring that content is not only accurate, but also effective within the constraints and expectations of its final use.
